Secretary

Role
Secretary; previously Charity Officer
When
Apr 2025 - 2026
Context
A student fundraising society with a committee of over forty.

I was Charity Officer from October 2024 to April 2025, then Secretary until 2026. Across both roles the society raised £14,000 for three charity partners, one of which was Safe Passage International, which works on safe routes for refugees.

As Secretary I handled the committee’s administration: minutes, agendas, records and internal communications. I recruited and oversaw a Social Secretary and three Alumni Officers.

RAG had no alumni list, so I put one together using LinkedIn, the university’s alumni relations team, and any previous documentation I could find. We used it for an alumni panel in February 2026, with a Brunswick Group executive and an HM Treasury policy adviser, and for a series of alumni posts on Instagram. It cost nothing to run and was submitted for the Students’ Union Best New Initiative award. Giving Tuesday fundraising went from £536 to just over £1,000 year on year, though I cannot say how much of that was down to the alumni work.
